Thessaloniki gives off the feeling of a small city, yet is known to be Greece’s second city. The locals are very friendly. The people of Thessaloniki love their pastries almost as much as I do, and thats saying something! I do have a sweet tooth.
Morning View from Hotel Room
I had a conversation with a local. He called me a tourist saying, “Είστε ένας τουρίστας“. He then gave me directions to his favorite landmark, the Ayios Demetrios. He described it as ‘μεγάλος’, meaning BIG.
The White Tower-Byzantine Museum, Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, Dodeka Apostoloi, Ayios Demetrios, Ayios Geogios, Arch of Galerius, and the Society of Macedonian Studies. It was a long day of walking.

Ayios Georgios (Rotunda)
Outside the Arch and Rotunda, top 5 tourist attractions of Thessaloniki, I ate at a local pastry shop. The woman running the shop didn’t speak any English. I ordered a vezir parmak, politika syrup cake with cream filling. The Rotunda is under construction on the inside, and is full of scaffolding.
The White Tower
Interior of the White Tower
The White Tower is known as Thessaloniki’s most famous landmark. It has a beautiful 360 view of the city. To get up to the top, one must climb steps that are 3 ‘ long at what seamed to be a 45 degree angle. It was worth the climb.
I had traditional Greek dinner, Tomatoes and Peppers stuffed with rice. It was delicious!
I am not an author. To be quite honest, I always hated English class. I write so I may share my experiences and remember the man I met on a bus who treated me to dinner with his family, paying and booking a hotel only to find out its out of business, fake crying in the Athens airport to get a ticket home, or remember the strangers who looked out for me on a bus. Some live, experience, and are fulfilled by what’s in their backyards. I find there is something truly exhilarating about cramming as many possessions into a bag as possible, only to complain you brought too many. This is my life out of a suitcase, hope you enjoy.
